Clean Tisza

It all began during the Covid period. During the pandemic, with lockdowns and restrictions on gatherings, when we couldn’t go out to the riverbanks, what could we do to protect our rivers? We gathered and organized the knowledge we had gained so far and turned it into educational materials. But our own experience was not enough, so we asked teachers from across the borders for help — because they know their rivers best. This is how the “5 Countries, 1 River” project was born, with the participation of Ukrainian, Slovak, Romanian, Hungarian, and Serbian educators. Children were also involved in the initiative, making their schools and kindergartens the first riversaver institutions. They cleaned rivers, adopted riverbank sections, learned about plastic recycling in school activities, and took part in Plastic Workshop sessions.

Our goal is to see as many river-rescuing schools and kindergartens as possible. Let us join forces — just as the tributaries feed the river Tisza — and strengthen the river-rescue network together.
