Within the “5 Countries, 1 River” Erasmus+ program, three educational materials and a fairy tale were created. The target audience is children aged 6–10, but since river protection is a challenge for all of us, we also confidently recommend them for students aged 10–14. In fact, it is quite possible that after completing certain tasks, they will be the ones teaching their parents new knowledge at home about rivers and plastic literacy.
The story transports the reader to a distant land — an ocean garbage island. Yet we soon realize that the tale is closely connected to our everyday lives, and to the amount of waste flowing down our rivers day after day. The characters include the magical wildlife of the river and a small group of river-rescuers. Using an ancient method of communication — the message in a bottle — they call for help so that together we can clean our rivers. Through this method, they step out of the story and accompany the reader throughout the learning materials, involving students in taking action. Whether it’s a school trip with litter collection along a nearby riverbank, a classroom activity, or exploring selective waste bins at home — you can be part of the adventure!
