River Saver Schools River Lit(t)eracy Programme
Rivers are in danger. Pollution and climate change are posing ever greater challenges. That is why the River Saver Schools River Lit(t)eracy Erasmus+ Programme program was launched in 2023, with the aim of establishing schools in countries along the Tisza River where children can learn to love, respect, and understand rivers. After all, those who know and love the river will also protect it.
Prepared within the framework of the River Lit(t)eracy – Riversaver Schools 2023
1 HU01 KA220 SCH 000166027 identified Erasmus+ project, with the support of the European Union.
What is the aim of the project?
What are the results of the project?
During the programme a wide range of practical and community-based activities were implemented across several countries to promote environmental education and river protection. A Riversaver School Network was established, bringing together more than 40 schools across four countries. Their students adopted a total of 30 river sections, gaining practical experience in river cleanups, waste collection, and plastic recycling. At the project’s closing River Literacy Summer Camp, the most active teachers and students participated together in river cleanup, playful competitions, and awareness-raising activities. 32 students from four countries built plastic bottle boats to row on the Tisza River in Szolnok.
The partners participated in the River Saver School Network Building Workshop held in Satu Mare between 18–21 July 2024.
The second edition of the four educational books developed in the Erasmus+ project ‘5 in 1’, which served as a precursor to the FMIP project, has been completed. The curriculum has been updated in both structure and content, and expanded with educational materials and video content.
The River Saver Protocols, which are visual guides for implementing river saver activities, have been completed. The River Adoption Guide presents the process of cleanup of a section of the riverbank and its ceremonial adoption, the Suitcas Protocol reveals the tools used for teaching materials, and the River Saver Camp Protocol presents the process of a summer camp rich in experiences related to rivers and plastics.
